The museum collection
The contents of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection represent a variety of age, medium, and geographic origin. The collection of Egyptian Art includes pieces from 300,000 BC. – 4th century AD Other elements of the permanent collection include musical instruments and modern art. The “battleship” project is unquestionably The Temple of Dendur. The temple was given to the United States by the Arab Republic of Egypt in 1965 and finally given (provided it provided a suitable setting) to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1967. It was installed in the purpose-built Sackler Wing in 1978.

Enjoy the amazing view from the rooftop terrace when visiting The Met. This art space and restaurant is open during the warmer months. It offers great views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The garden was the gift of philanthropists Iris and B. Gerald Cantor to the Metropolitan Museum.
How much time do you need?
It is not possible to see the entire Metropolitan Museum in one day. It is a good idea to study the map of the museum in advance and decide on the exhibitions you want to see. Maps can be found at the information desk as soon as you enter the main entrance. To give you an idea of the size of the museum, we note that the American wing alone is so huge that you could spend a whole day there. The Met is divided into different parts, which give you a direct way to the parts of the museum that interest you.
