Madame Tussauds opened its doors in the heart of New York’s Times Square in the year 2000. Visitors take part in a unique journey through the realm of history, power and glory created by wax figures.

History

The history is rich and fascinating, with roots dating back to 1770 Paris. It was there that Madame Tussauds learned to create wax figures under the tutelage of her mentor, Dr. Philippe Curios.

At the age of 17, she became an art teacher to King Louis XVI’s sister at the palace of Versailles, and then, during the French Revolution, she was forced to prove her subservience to the feudal nobles by making death masks of executed aristocrats.

Madame Tussaud’s came to Britain in the early 19th century, alongside a traveling exhibition of revolutionary relics and images of public heroes and scoundrels.

Priceless exhibits from the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars came to Europe’s events, which had a direct impact on everyday life.

Figures from leading politicians and, in the Hall of Terror, notorious criminals captured the public imagination.

In 1835, the Madame Tussauds exhibition was established on a permanent basis in London at Baker Street Bazaar. The ticket that visitors paid was sixpence for the chance to meet the biggest names of the time.

Millions of people have passed through the doors of Madame Tussauds in London since it first opened over 200 years ago.

Among the museum’s exhibits, visitors can see a series of celebrities, sports legends, great political and historical figures, and relive moments and events that have been discussed over time.

The exhibition moved to its current location on Marylebone Road in 1884. In 2000, Madame Tussauds arrived in the United States with the opening of the first museum in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The exhibition received such a great response that in 2000, Madame Tussauds opened its doors in New York’s Times Square.

Madame Tussauds arrived in the capital of the United States in October 2007 and in Hollywood in 2009.
